Duties

This position directs, manages, and provides leadership for the Manufacturing Technology Institute’s staff and in credit courses, short-term workshops, and seminars; and community, city and industry-related partnerships.; In addition, is in charge of the evening and/or Saturday college approximately 25-30 times a year.  At these times, has full responsibility of faculty, students, clerical, custodial, and security staff.

  • Provides leadership and direction in managing the Manufacturing Technology Programs.
  • Plans and develops new manufacturing programs and projects in cooperation with and in response to the manufacturing sector.
  • Confers with industry management to determine opportunities for specialized productivity improvement training.
  • Assists in developing grants to secure funding for special manufacturing programs and projects.
  • Hires, supervises, manages, and assists assigned personnel to fulfill the objectives of the Manufacturing Technology program.
  • Writes program schedules, reports, and promotional materials as needed.
  • Plans and conducts staff meetings and training activities for staff (academic and non-academic) and outside consultants to assist them in improving manufacturing programs.
  • Prepares written communication, correspondence, reports, enrollment documents, budgets, marketing information, program policy and procedures, time lines, activity checklists, etc.
  • Reviews and analyzes enrollment data in area of responsibility, communicates results and plans strategies through written reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  1. Masters Degree in Engineering; significant experience in a Manufacturing Production environment; ability to work with the private sector, governmental agencies, and community and civic organizations. 
  2. Minimum of 3 years experience in working with business and industry with significant experience in planning and providing training and technical assistance to groups and individuals.  Demonstrated supervisory and management skills required.
  3. Must work well with employees at all levels of the organization, in addition to students and other customers.  Proven experience in managing and directing a diversified work staff.  Must be able to handle all situations with tact, persuasiveness, and diplomacy. 
  4. Excellent writing and verbal communication necessary.  Must be able to effectively represent the college and district, at various meetings.  Must be able to write grants and other reports clearly and accurately.  Ability to work with students from diverse communities, many using English as a second language.
  5. Previous budget development experience preferred.  Must be self-directed and innovative, able to assess current operations in an effort to improve the future goals of the college.  Must be able to meet deadlines in a timely manner. Ability to operate computers and use software applications.  Experience in writing successful grant proposals.
