Duties

This position is responsible for developing and implementing pre-credit instructional plans for the purpose of improving students’ proficiency in writing for special programs at CCC. 

  • Pursuant to the discipline being taught, teaches students writing skills and techniques to increase vocabulary.
  • Prepare lesson plans and lesson materials for distribution and use in practical application. 
  • Test and grade students’ skills, keeps records of student assessments and distributes mid-term and final grades.
  • Grade written assignments with focus on the mechanics of utilizing math skills techniques.
  • Register new and returning students; advise students on courses and in selection of college credit courses.
  • Ensure a sense of relationship between the discipline and written assignments.
  • Tutor students with coursework; advises students on life skills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities needed for addressing concerns of students and the administration and resolving situations in a timely manner.
  • Must be self-directed, innovative and committed to integrating new technologies in the learning process with the ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to interact effectively with students.
  • Must be able to work well within a culturally diverse environment with the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Bachelor's in English, English Education, Composition and Rhetoric.
  • Bachelor's in Journalism (print journalism only) with at least 15 credit hours, with a grade of A or B, distributed among the following course areas:
    1. Composition,
    2. Grammar,
    3. Creative writing,
    4. Teaching writing, and 
    5. Rhetoric
  • Minimum 2 years experience preferred teaching English at the post-secondary level.
  • 15 graduate hours in English may be substituted if the candidate does not have a Bachelor's in English, English Education, Composition and Rhetoric or Print Journalism.
  • We prefer candidates with knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System.
