Duties
This position is responsible for developing and implementing pre-credit instructional plans for the purpose of improving students’ proficiency in reading for special programs at CCC.
- Pursuant to the discipline being taught, teaches critical thinking skills, reading comprehension techniques and different reading levels.
- Prepare lesson plans and lesson materials for distribution and use in practical application.
- Test and grade students’ skills, keeps records of student assessments and distributes mid-term and final grades.
- Grade written assignments with focus on the mechanics of utilizing math skills techniques.
- Register new and returning students; advise students on courses and in selection of college credit courses.
- Ensure a sense of relationship between the discipline and written assignments.
- Tutor students with coursework; advises students on life skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities needed for addressing concerns of students and the administration and resolving situations in a timely manner.
- Must be self-directed, innovative and committed to integrating new technologies in the learning process with the ability to inspire, motivate and empower students to succeed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required with the ability to interact effectively with students.
- Must be able to work well within a culturally diverse environment with the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.

Bachelor's in English, English Education, Composition and Rhetoric, Adult Literacy with an emphasis in Literacy or Linguistics and with 15 credit hours, with a grade of A or B, distributed among the following course areas:
- Foundation or survey of reading fundamentals including reading in the content area,
- Testing procedures and diagnosis of reading disabilities, and
- Diagnostic teaching techniques and materials
- 15 graduate hours in reading may be substituted if the candidate does not have a Bachelor's in English, English Education, Composition and Rhetoric or Adult Literacy.
- Minimum 2 years experience preferred teaching reading at the post secondary or adult literacy level.
- We prefer candidates with knowledge of Blackboard Learning Management System.
